Friday marked Bob Pisani’s final day as CNBC Floor reporter. Bob has been a pillar of the NYSE community since 1998, becoming as much a symbol of trust to financial news audiences as the NYSE is a symbol of capitalism.
At the time Bob joined it wasn’t easy for an outsider in the media to gain the trust of those on the Floor. Bob not only gained our trust, but our respect, becoming a friend and mentor to many of those that had the honor working alongside him.
I was one of those fortunate people. I started at the NYSE a few years before Bob and while I wasn’t permitted to talk to the media on camera at the time, we could always be cited as “people on the floor” providing anonymous quotes. It started by giving him updates on IPO pricing then as my role grew at the NYSE it was details about market mechanics or random thoughts on the market.
When I transitioned from market maker to my current strategist role, Bob was the first to call to congratulate me and this time request an “official” quote. He asked me what my title was and I didn't exactly have one. So he told me you are the Chief Market Strategist and thus I was. He ran a story in 2021 and there it was in print - a quote with my name and new title. I will always be grateful for his support.
After a much deserved hiatus traveling the world, Bob will take on a new role reporting for CNBC Pro. However, his day-to-day commentary from the NYSE Floor, representing our community, will not be part of the daily ritual and that will be greatly missed.
Everyone who has had the privilege of working with Bob is proud of what he meant to the financial community and the legacy he leaves. Here is an amazing highlight reel put together by CNBC to look back at those great years.
Thank you, Bob.
Bob congratulations and enjoy your semi retirement have safe travels and it was a pleasure knowing you on the floor for many years
Truly one of the good guys in the industry, with a legacy of good will
